Martin Köbele began his musical studies in violincello at the age of 7. His most important teacher was Günther Prömm, second principal of the Württembergische Philharmonie. Other teachers included Christof Neundorf (Stuttgart) and Gottfried Greiner (Munich, principal of the Radio-orchestra Munich). Martin made his orchestral debut at the age of 17 and was a double laureate of the "Jugend musiziert" competition, which is held in Baden-Württemberg. He fulfilled his alternative civilian service in Munich, where he was a member of Germany's Solely Quintet which performs in nursing homes and parish halls. In 1999, Martin began his university studies, with a major in computer science and a minor in chemistry. In 2002, he came to Canada as an exchange student for a year, and studied at the University of Windsor School of Music. It was there that he met Dara Zusko and Jane Ripley. Martin is currently a member of several orchestras and performs regularly in various capacities.
